This volume compiles two landmark pieces of Indian legislation aimed at protecting public health from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine-based products — the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA) and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. The COTPA 2003 regulates tobacco advertising, mandates statutory health warnings, prohibits smoking in public places, and sets restrictions on trade and packaging to safeguard citizens from tobacco hazards. The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019 extends this framework by banning the production, manufacture, import, export, sale, distribution, and advertisement of electronic cigarettes, addressing emerging public health challenges linked to vaping devices.
